Over the years, our Content team has developed a deep expertise in Arizona's academic standards, graduation requirements, and assessments. We've summarized the considerations that have guided our product development below.

Standards

Arizona uses the Arizona K–12 Academic Standards for ELA and Math, replacing the earlier Common Core adoption with state-specific revisions in 2016. Science follows the Arizona Science Standards, which incorporate NGSS with state modifications. Additionally, English Language Learners (ELLs) are supported through the Arizona English Language Proficiency (ELP) Standards, which are measured annually via the AZELLA to track progress toward language reclassification.

Students are assessed through AASA in Grades 3–8, AzSCI in Science, and the ACT® is required for all 11th graders (state-funded). The Arizona Civics Test is required for graduation (requiring a passing score of 70 for the Class of 2026).

  • ELA & Math: Grades 3–8 (Arizona's Academic Standards Assessment, AASA).
  • Science: Grades 5, 8, and 11 (AzSCI).
  • AZELLA: Annual English proficiency assessment for ELL students.
College & Career Readiness
  • ACT®: Required for all 11th graders (state-funded).
  • AzSCI: Grade 11 Science.
  • SAT®, AP®, & IB: Widely available.
  • AZELLA: High school proficiency assessment used for ELL placement and reclassification.

Arizona requires 22 credits for graduation, including 4 ELA, 4 Math (including Algebra II or equivalent and a 4th year of math), 3 Science, 3 Social Studies (including U.S. History, World History, Government, and Economics), and 1 Fine Arts or CTE. Students must pass the Arizona Civics Test with a score of 70% or higher.
